Afshan Behnam

Hello, I’m Afshan, an Iranian-born designer based in California. My work sits at the intersection of home, decorative arts, and heritage.
Trained in designing habitable spaces, my understanding of home deepened after immigrating and having to redefine it for myself. I see home as a place that feels familiar yet alive, reflecting the present while carrying traces of history and the future. It is where stories unfold in objects, color, pattern, and small details.
Somewhere in this process, I began creating artworks inspired by Iranian heritage. I work with block printing, a process defined by repetition, order, and gentle imperfection. I reinterpret historical Persian motifs found in stone carvings, tiles, textiles, and handmade rugs, exploring their symbolism through a contemporary lens of color and composition.
